Nechako Healthy Community Alliance
The Nechako Healthy Community Alliance hosted its 2018 Annual General Meeting on January 21, 2018 and member groups provided reports on their 2017 activities and plans for 2018.
Director Karen Scheffers provided Nechako Healthy Community Alliance highlights, “The Community Garden Harvest Celebration hosted more than 200 guests. The beautiful mural on the corner of Kenney Dam road sets a positive direction for building an inclusive community. Almost 100 tons of plastic & paper were redirected from the landfill to recycling facilities. Not to mention cooking, preserving, planting and cleaning our community! The NHCA mission is “To inspire and support the people of the Nechako Valley to choose actions which improve the health of our environment and the well-being of our communities.”
The organization is the umbrella group for several non-profit community groups which support health and environmental initiatives in Vanderhoof. Nechako Healthy Community Alliance provides the administrative function for community groups, so they can focus on their projects and programs.
Operated by volunteers, the Nechako Healthy Community Alliance offers administrative support to:
- the Nechako Waste Reduction Initiative
- the Nechako Valley Food Network which includes the Vanderhoof Community Garden
- the Nechako Creative Communities Collective (NC3)
The Nechako Healthy Community Alliance reviewed their guiding principles of excellence, inclusiveness, collaboration/connection, accountability/transparency and sustainability.
